Cambodia Highlights Post-Harvest Loss Reduction Strategy at Global Food Security Forum
ISTANBUL, June 9, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia showcased its efforts to curb post-harvest food losses and bolster food security at an international forum that gathered representatives from 33 countries, development partners, and global organizations, officials said Monday.
Speaking at the conference on “Reducing Post-Harvest Losses” in Istanbul, Hong Narith, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and representative of Agriculture Minister Dith Tina, outlined Cambodia’s strategy to improve the efficiency and sustainability of its food systems.

Narith stressed that reducing food loss and waste is vital to tackling hunger and malnutrition worldwide, noting that millions still face food insecurity despite significant losses across supply chains. He detailed Cambodia’s approach, which integrates policy reforms, technological innovation, private-sector engagement, and awareness-raising initiatives.
According to the ministry, food loss reduction measures have been embedded in key national frameworks, including Cambodia’s Food Systems Roadmap for Sustainable Development 2030, the Agricultural Strategic Development Plan 2024–2028, and the National Food Security and Nutrition Strategy 2024–2028.
Narith highlighted efforts to strengthen capacity through new technologies and support services, while encouraging greater private-sector investment in food production, processing, and supply chains to improve efficiency and reduce losses. He also emphasized promoting awareness and best practices among farmers, producers, processors, and other stakeholders.
The conference, held under the theme of reducing post-harvest losses as a pathway to more efficient food supply chains, provided a platform for countries to exchange experiences and explore collaborative solutions to global food security challenges.
Narith reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to international efforts to reduce food loss and waste, stressing that such measures are “no longer optional but essential” for ensuring sustainable food systems, boosting agricultural productivity, and strengthening food security.
