PHNOM PENH, June 11, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni has conveyed condolences to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr after a powerful earthquake struck Mindanao, leaving deaths, injuries and widespread destruction.

In his message, the monarch said he was “greatly saddened” by the disaster and extended sympathy to those affected.

“The people of Cambodia join me in expressing our heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, to the bereaved families and our deepest sympathy to all those who have been affected by this tragic natural disaster,” King Sihamoni said.

He expressed hope for the swift recovery of the injured and the rapid restoration of affected communities.

The quake damaged homes, public buildings and infrastructure across southern Mindanao, with authorities assessing the scale of destruction as emergency teams carried out search, rescue and relief operations.

The Philippines, located along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” is among the world’s most disaster‑prone countries, regularly hit by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and typhoons.

Cambodian leaders have often conveyed solidarity messages following major disasters in the region, underscoring ASEAN ties and longstanding bilateral relations.
