DPM Chanthol Highlights Investment Reforms to Attract More Japanese Businesses to Cambodia
TOKYO, June 11, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol has underscored ongoing investment reforms and business-friendly policies as the country seeks to draw more Japanese investment and deepen economic cooperation.
Chanthol, who is also First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met Wednesday with Obuchi Yuko, President of the Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship League and member of Japan’s House of Representatives, on the sidelines of the 31st Nikkei Forum.

He briefed Japanese lawmakers on Cambodia’s socio-economic progress and highlighted measures to create a more open investment environment, including the new Law on Investment and facilitation mechanisms such as the Cambodia-Japan Public-Private Sector Dialogue.
Chanthol reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating online scams and strengthening the business climate to boost investor confidence. He stressed Cambodia’s focus on political stability and sustainable growth as key factors making the country attractive for foreign direct investment.
Obuchi welcomed the Cambodian delegation and praised Cambodia’s social and economic progress. She pledged to encourage more Japanese investors to explore opportunities in Cambodia and reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
