SIEM REAP, June 21, 2026 (KPT) – Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has pledged to maintain enhanced revenue-sharing benefits for the Chong Kneas boat operator community in Siem Reap, while urging residents to remain united and deliver transparent, high-quality services to strengthen tourism at the Tonle Sap Lake attraction.

The premier made the remarks during a family visit to Tonle Sap Lake on Saturday, following his return from an official trip to Russia, after meeting representatives of the Chong Kneas tourist boat operators’ association.

Community representatives raised concerns about livelihoods and requested continued support in the distribution of tourism service revenues between the Angkor Institution and the communit

y. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that the government had previously increased the community’s share of tourism revenue to help offset rising fuel costs driven by conflicts in the Middle East, which have pushed up global oil prices and operating expenses for boat operators.

Responding to the request, and after consultations with the Director-General of Angkor Enterprise, the Prime Minister said he had agreed in principle to keep the increased revenue-sharing arrangement in place even if fuel prices decline in the future. The move, he stressed, is aimed at boosting incomes for local residents and supporting the long-term welfare of the community.

Samdech ThipadeiHun Manet also called on community members to maintain solidarity and work together to improve tourism services. “My request is for the community to continue strengthening unity in organizing and providing quality and transparent services to tourists,” he said, adding that doing so would help build visitor confidence and attract more domestic and international tourists to Chong Kneas.

The floating village of Chong Kneas, located on the edge of Tonle Sap Lake in Siem Reap province, is one of Cambodia’s popular tourism destinations, offering visitors a glimpse into the unique lifestyle of lake communities and access to the region’s rich natural ecosystem.
