Financial Sector Joins Forces to Expand Green Finance for MSMEs and Climate‑Resilient Agriculture
PHNOM PENH, June 26, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s financial sector has taken a major step toward accelerating the country’s green transition after the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) and the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (ARDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand green financing for micro, small and medium‑sized enterprises, farmers and climate‑resilient agriculture.
The agreement establishes a strategic framework to promote sustainable finance and climate‑related services across banking, microfinance, agriculture and MSME sectors. It was signed by CMA Chairman Sok Voeun and ARDB Deputy CEO Chan Seyha, representing ARDB chief Kao Thach, in the presence of officials from the National Bank of Cambodia, government ministries, development partners and financial institutions.

Under the partnership, CMA and ARDB will jointly develop green financial products, mobilize preferential credit lines, strengthen institutions’ capacity in Environmental, Social and Governance standards and climate risk management, and support MSMEs, cooperatives and smallholder farmers in adopting climate‑smart agriculture and renewable energy solutions.
The two institutions will also collaborate to advance Cambodia’s national climate agenda by promoting green investment, facilitating knowledge sharing and improving access to sustainable financing.
Voeun said the partnership marks an important milestone by channeling much‑needed green finance to environmentally sustainable projects while strengthening members’ ability to manage climate risks. Seyha added that ARDB remains committed to mobilizing green financing, narrowing gaps and supporting farmers and rural enterprises in transitioning to more sustainable and resilient practices.
The initiative reflects Cambodia’s broader push to align its financial sector with climate goals, ensuring that MSMEs and rural producers can access resources to adapt to climate change while contributing to long‑term economic sustainability.
