PHNOM PENH, July 10, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, as Washington said it was closely monitoring tensions along the Cambodia‑Thailand border and backed efforts to resolve disputes peacefully.

The pledge came during talks between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Aleksandra Zittle, newly appointed Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy in Phnom Penh.

According to Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, economic development, combating transnational crime and preserving cultural heritage.

Zittle said the United States was paying close attention to developments along the border and welcomed Cambodia’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and international law.

Prak Sokhonn briefed her on recent developments and reiterated that border issues must be settled peacefully under existing agreements.

He thanked Washington for its continued support for regional peace and stability, including financial assistance.

Both sides noted that Cambodia‑US ties had gained momentum in recent years, citing growing trade, investment flows, people‑to‑people exchanges and regular high‑level engagement.

Prak Sokhonn welcomed Zittle on her second posting to Cambodia, expressing confidence her tenure would further strengthen ties.

Zittle praised Cambodia’s rapid socio‑economic progress since her previous posting and congratulated Phnom Penh on its election to UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for 2026–2030.

The meeting concluded with both countries reaffirming their commitment to maintain close dialogue and expand practical cooperation to advance mutual interests and regional stability.
