JAKARTA, June 4, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and the United States have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation under the ASEAN‑US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of a regional summit in Jakarta, officials said Thursday.

Kung Phoak, Cambodia’s Secretary of State and ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting leader, met US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Michael George DeSombre during the 38th ASEAN‑US Dialogue on June 3.

The talks came as ASEAN and Washington prepare to mark the 50th anniversary of their dialogue relations in 2027. Both sides exchanged views on the significance of the milestone and the importance of maintaining momentum in their long‑standing partnership.

According to Cambodia’s foreign ministry, discussions focused on priority areas under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including efforts to enhance regional stability, strengthen economic ties and expand collaboration across sectors of mutual interest.

The two sides also reviewed broader bilateral cooperation, reaffirming the importance of continued engagement at both bilateral and regional levels within the ASEAN‑led framework.

They further exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, underscoring the value of dialogue in addressing shared challenges and promoting stability.
