Cambodia’s National Assembly to Vote on Government Appointment, International Treaties

PHNOM PENH, July 10, 2026 (KPT)– Cambodia’s National Assembly will next week vote on the appointment of a new member of the Royal Government and consider legislation to ratify several international and regional agreements, officials said Friday.

The agenda was endorsed by the Assembly’s Standing Committee during a meeting chaired by President Samdech Khuon Sudary.

Lawmakers are scheduled to convene on July 14 to hold a vote of confidence on the government’s nominee and debate four draft laws.

Among the proposed legislation is a bill approving Cambodia’s accession to the Cape Town Convention and its Aircraft Protocol, an international treaty designed to facilitate asset‑based financing and leasing of aircraft by establishing common legal protections for creditors.

The Assembly will also examine three ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangements covering the regional framework, building and construction materials, and type approval certification for automotive products.

The agreements are intended to promote regulatory cooperation and facilitate trade among ASEAN member states.

The remaining draft law was endorsed by the Standing Committee but not detailed in the announcement.

The votes will take place during the continuation of the Assembly’s sixth plenary session of its seventh legislature.

The session comes against the backdrop of heightened border tensions with Thailand, which have disrupted trade flows and led to partial closures of land crossings.

Officials said the closures have contributed to a sharp decline in bilateral commerce, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation and treaty commitments to safeguard Cambodia’s economic resilience.
