Border Secretariat Launches Awareness Campaign, Urges Vigilance Against Misinformation

RATANAKIRI, July 16, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has stepped up efforts to promote public understanding of border affairs, with senior officials gathering in Ratanakiri province for a seminar focused on sovereignty, international law and demarcation.
Lam Chea, Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat of Border Affairs, chaired the seminar titled “Border Affairs of the Kingdom of Cambodia” at the provincial hall on Thursday.
The event brought together 321 participants, including provincial officials, representatives from the ministries of Interior and National Defence, local authorities, armed forces, youth and students.
Opening the seminar, Governor Nhem Samoeun welcomed participants before Senior Minister Chea delivered a keynote presentation outlining Cambodia’s approach to border affairs.
Chea said the programme was designed to strengthen knowledge among officials and the public about international law, border demarcation processes and Cambodia’s territorial history.
He stressed the need to counter misinformation, incitement and distortions of facts related to border issues.
“Border affairs are a matter of vital national importance,” Chea said, adding that protecting territorial integrity was a responsibility shared by state institutions and citizens.
He highlighted the government’s long-term efforts to establish and mark Cambodia’s borders with neighbouring countries, saying clear boundaries contribute to peace, stability and development.
Chea reaffirmed that the administration will continue implementing the Royal Government’s Pentagonal Strategy–Phase I under Prime Minister Hun Manet, while preserving achievements in previous border work.
He said Cambodia remains committed to completing a comprehensive international boundary system based on existing agreements and international principles.
