PM Hun Manet reaffirms One China stance in talks with Xi

SHANGHAI, July 18, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed Phnom Penh’s support for Beijing’s One China policy during talks with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, saying Cambodia recognises Taiwan as part of China.

The meetings on July 17 also saw Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet back China’s positions on Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet, according to Cambodia’s foreign ministry. Both sides pledged to deepen ties under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the “Community with a Shared Future”.

They agreed to expand cooperation through the “Diamond Cooperation Framework”, including the Fish and Rice Corridor and the Industrial and Technology Corridor.

Samdech Thipadei also voiced support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Xi’s global development, security, civilization and AI governance proposals, which Cambodian officials said contribute to peace and stability.

China pledged continued backing for Cambodia’s sovereignty and economic growth, encouraging more investment. Samdech Thipadei welcomed Beijing’s support for projects such as the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources scheme, energy cooperation and wider access for Cambodian farm exports.

The two countries also agreed to strengthen trade through the Cambodia‑China Free Trade Agreement, the upgraded ASEAN‑China pact and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

Security cooperation featured prominently, with China praising Cambodia’s efforts against cybercrime and supporting Phnom Penh’s plan to host an international conference on online fraud.

Samdech ThipadeiHun Manet said tackling transnational crime remained a priority. He also briefed Chinese leaders on Cambodia’s border dispute with Thailand, thanking Beijing for backing dialogue, ceasefire efforts and humanitarian aid.
