US praises Cambodia’s ‘outstanding effort’ to combat online scams

PHNOM PENH, July 22, 2026 (KPT) – The president of the US‑ASEAN Business Council has praised Cambodia’s campaign against online scams, describing the government’s actions as an “outstanding effort” during talks with senior officials in Phnom Penh.
Brian McFeeters made the remarks on July 21 in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha at the Ministry of Interior headquarters.
Leading a delegation of US‑ASEAN Business Council representatives, McFeeters commended Cambodian authorities, including the Interior Ministry, for tackling technology‑based fraud crimes.
According to the ministry, McFeeters thanked Cambodian leaders for improving security and creating a more favourable environment for US companies operating in the country.
Sar Sokha welcomed the assessment, saying the ministry remained committed to eliminating online scam operations, which he called a major challenge requiring decisive action.
He said Cambodian authorities had significantly reduced large‑scale scam activities and were continuing efforts to dismantle smaller networks.
More than 300,000 foreign nationals had either left Cambodia voluntarily or been deported, he added.
US business representatives also discussed their investment experiences and potential opportunities in Cambodia. Sar Sokha said the ministry was ready to support and facilitate projects to help businesses grow.
McFeeters said the delegation had received a warm welcome and felt safe during their visit, adding he hoped the trip would encourage further investment by US business groups.
Sar Sokha said he hoped the delegation would share their observations widely, highlighting Cambodia’s efforts to strengthen security, safety and the investment climate.
