PHNOM PENH, Feb 25, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s fresh cassava prices have rebounded to more than 300 riel per kilogram since early February, recovering from two years of decline, driven by rising global demand.

El Chhin, president of the Khmer Cassava Farmers Association, said Tuesday that stronger international demand has lifted prices above 300 riel per kilogram nationwide, with regional variations: around 290 riel in the north, up to 400 riel in central provinces such as Kampong Thom and Kampong Cham, and above 300 riel in western provinces including Battambang and Pailin.

Many farmers are focusing on dried cassava, which fetches more than 600 riel per kilogram. Cambodia’s cassava exports mainly serve Vietnam, China, and domestic processors. Sok Khoeun, a farmer in Battambang’s Banan district, said yields are higher this year, with fresh cassava selling at 230 riel per kilogram compared with 150 riel in 2025.

The government has worked to expand export markets, shipping nearly 10 million tons in 2025. In January 2026 alone, cassava exports reached $161 million, up 92.3 percent year-on-year.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia earned $646 million from cassava exports in 2025, down 14.5 percent from 2024. Fresh cassava exports totaled 3.1 million tons, down nearly 10 percent, while dried cassava chip exports surged 62.2 percent to 1.56 million tons.
