20,000 Cambodian returnee workers to benefit from Japan’s $1 million support
PHNOM PENH, Feb 20, 2026 (KPT) – Nearly 20,000 Cambodian migrant workers will benefit from a $1 million grant from Japan to support reintegration, officials said Friday.
Labour ministry spokesman Sun Mesa said the 24 month project, beginning in June, will enhance skills and improve access to jobs in industry, construction and agriculture. The programme, channelled through the International Labour Organization, is designed to help returnees rebuild livelihoods at home.

As of January, about 960,000 Cambodian migrant workers had returned from abroad, with 630,000 already employed through ministry supported mechanisms. Around 310,000 are working in industry, construction and agriculture, while 320,000 are engaged in small and medium sized enterprises and local businesses.
Three new Migrant Resource Centres will be set up in Oddar Meanchey, Pursat and Preah Vihear provinces, offering counselling, legal aid and labour market information.
The agreement, signed at the Japanese Embassy, reflects deepening Japan–Cambodia cooperation in labour development and economic resilience.
