PHNOM PENH, Feb 16, 2026 (KPT) – A Thai military incursion has caused an estimated $10 million in damage to Cambodia’s energy infrastructure along the shared border, Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said Saturday.

He said the destruction affected both private facilities and state-owned assets operated by Electricité du Cambodge (EDC), with losses exceeding $4 million for private operators and more than $5 million for EDC. The government has fully compensated all damaged electricity infrastructure, including private sector losses, Rottanak added.

The minister warned that without the ceasefire, damage could have been far worse, noting it had helped prevent further casualties and infrastructure losses. He accused Thailand of aggression but stressed Cambodia was exercising restraint, saying the country lacked military capabilities comparable to larger nations.

Rottanak reiterated Phnom Penh’s commitment to resolving the dispute through international law and diplomacy, with the aim of protecting lives, the economy and critical infrastructure. He praised electricity workers for their frontline role in repairing power lines despite risks from ongoing clashes and fighter aircraft.
