Cambodia reviews French led waste to energy study
PHNOM PENH, 12 February 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has reviewed a French led feasibility study on a proposed project to convert urban waste into clean energy.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the CDC, received a delegation from Vinci Construction and SUEZ on Thursday. The team, led by Thomas Chauveau, Managing Director of Energy Operations and New Businesses at Vinci, presented findings from their joint study titled Waste Recycling Park – Selection of Technologies for Urban Solid Waste Treatment and Energy Production.
The proposed project aims to generate affordable electricity by transforming plastic waste into energy, extend landfill lifespan and improve waste management efficiency. Officials said it would also promote public health and environmental sustainability by reducing urban waste accumulation.
The study highlighted technological options for solid waste treatment and energy generation, with experts noting the potential to support industrial innovation, infrastructure growth and cost management in Cambodia’s waste systems.
