Cambodia, Hong Kong business leaders push stronger trade ties

PHNOM PENH, Jan 20, 2026 (KPT) – Business leaders from Cambodia and Hong Kong have pledged to deepen two-way trade and investment as the Cambodian Oknha Association (COA) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) prepare to sign new cooperation agreements.

Speaking at a forum in Phnom Penh on Tuesday, COA vice president Kuon Thida said the relationship was entering a more structured phase, with two memoranda of understanding to be signed — one with HKTDC and another with the Hong Kong Business Association of Cambodia (HKBAC). The agreements will cover business matching, joint events and trade promotion.

“These MOUs are not just formal documents — they reflect our shared commitment to practical, result driven partnerships,” Thida said.

Kwan Ho Leung, HKTDC’s regional director for Southeast and South Asia, urged more exchanges in both directions. “When people travel and explore opportunities, good things will happen,” he said, stressing direct engagement between entrepreneurs and investors.

HKTDC also announced four major trade fairs in Hong Kong in April, including InnoEX and the Electronics Fair, offering Cambodian suppliers new market access.

Trade between Cambodia and Hong Kong has been rising, with bilateral flows reaching $1.16 billion by November 2025. Cambodian exports topped $930 million, while imports stood at $230 million, making Cambodia Hong Kong’s 38th largest trading partner.
