PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 25, 2025) — Cambodia earned about $574 million from cassava exports in the first 11 months of 2025, a 16.15 percent decline compared with the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

EL Chhin, president of the Khmer Cassava Farmers Association, said falling market prices remain a major challenge for growers. Fresh cassava dropped to as low as 150 riel per kilogram in Oddar Meanchey province, while farmers in Stung Treng and other provinces were able to sell at 250 riel. Dried cassava fetched between 520 and 700 riel per kilogram.

Ngin Chhay, director general of the Agriculture Department, said exports of fresh cassava have fallen as farmers shift to dried and processed cassava flour, which can be stored longer and sold at higher prices.

Va Rotsan, secretary of state at the Ministry of Commerce, said the government is working to diversify export markets and agricultural products. He added that Cambodia must expand potential commodities such as rice, cashew nuts, cassava, pepper and Pailin longan.

In 2024, Cambodia exported more than 3 million tons of fresh cassava, nearly 1 million tons of dried cassava and 60,524 tons of cassava flour, earning about $728 million.
