PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.23, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with the European Union, launched a two-day Cashew and Pepper Trade Forum on Oct. 23–24 at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh, aiming to expand export access to European markets.

Held under the theme “Unlocking EU Market Access,” the forum spotlighted Cambodia’s growing cashew and pepper industries, both considered high-potential sectors for sustainable agricultural development and international trade. The event brought together producers, exporters, policymakers, and development partners to strengthen value chains and promote investment.

Cambodia has emerged as a key global contributor in cashew and pepper production, thanks to its fertile soil and favorable climate. Cambodian cashews are known for their rich flavor and high nutritional value, while Kampot pepper — a Geographical Indication (GI) product — is internationally acclaimed for its aromatic quality and premium grade.

Commerce Minister Cham Nimul said the two crops are not only vital sources of livelihood for thousands of farming households, but also strategic drivers of Cambodia’s export diversification and rural economic growth.

In the first nine months of 2025, Cambodia earned $801 million from cashew exports, a 60.54% increase year-on-year. However, pepper exports fell by over 11%, generating $28 million during the same period.

The forum reflects Cambodia’s commitment to enhancing agricultural competitiveness and market diversification, with support from the German Embassy, EU Delegation to Cambodia, and other partners. Organizers hope the event will serve as a bridge connecting Cambodian agribusiness to European buyers, fostering long-term, mutually beneficial trade relations.
