Turkish Airlines to Launch Direct Flights to Phnom Penh Amid Cambodia’s Tourism Rebound

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.17, 2027) — Turkish Airlines will begin direct flights from Istanbul to Phnom Penh on Dec. 12, marking a major boost to Cambodia’s international connectivity as the country works to revive its tourism sector.

The announcement was made during a meeting on Sept. 16 between Tourism Minister Huot Hak and Turkish Ambassador Ülkü Kocaefe, who led a delegation from Turkish Airlines, including Vice President Ümit Develi. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Tourism headquarters in Phnom Penh.

The new route will connect Cambodia to one of the world’s largest airline networks, with Turkish Airlines flying to more than 350 destinations across 130 countries. Officials said the move reflects growing confidence in Cambodia’s tourism potential and the strategic importance of the newly inaugurated Techo International Airport.

Tourism Minister Huot Hak praised the partnership, calling it a “fruitful cooperation” that aligns with the Royal Government’s long-term vision to position Cambodia as a regional travel hub. He said the direct flights will help increase international arrivals and support Cambodia’s goal of attracting 7 million tourists by 2025.

The minister also acknowledged Türkiye’s continued support and emphasized the importance of expanding air connectivity to unlock new tourism and investment opportunities.

Cambodia welcomed over 3.5 million international visitors in the first eight months of 2025, a 45% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Officials expect the new Istanbul–Phnom Penh route to further accelerate growth, especially from European and Middle Eastern markets.
