Cambodia Approves New Multi Purpose Port in Kampong Chhnang With 2 Million Ton Capacity
PHNOM PENH, March 16, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has approved the construction of a new international multi purpose port and logistics center in Kampong Chhnang province, designed to handle up to two million tons of cargo annually, according to a government sub decree signed by Prime Minister Hun Manet.
The Kampong Chhnang Multi Purpose Port and Logistics Center will be developed and operated by KLP Transportation in Chambak Khpos village, Kampong Leng district. Officials said the facility will provide services for international water navigation, including loading, unloading and transshipment of general goods, containers and bulk cargo.

The port’s designated water and land areas will be divided between state public property and investor owned land, with sections along the Tonle Sap River and near Koh Russey island. Infrastructure will include warehouses, docking facilities, inspection buildings, administrative offices and truck weighing stations.
The project will strengthen Cambodia’s inland water transport network, improve logistics capacity in the central region, and support trade flows and economic development. The government added that the new port is expected to ease transport costs, expand connectivity for local producers, and attract further investment into Cambodia’s growing logistics sector.
