Cambodia Diversifies Fuel Imports to Cushion Global Oil Supply Disruptions
PHNOM PENH, Mar. 17, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia is diversifying fuel import sources to cushion the impact of global oil supply disruptions triggered by Middle East tensions, Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said Monday.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Rottanak noted that the disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — a vital route for global oil exports — has affected many Asian economies, including Cambodia, which relies heavily on imported petroleum.

“Cambodia is not immune to this disruption, because a large share of oil and gas from the Middle East is destined for Asia,” he said.
Authorities are working with multiple suppliers to ensure regular replenishment of stocks and are monitoring domestic markets to prevent panic buying.
Fuel prices have surged in recent weeks, with petrol up more than 30 percent and diesel over 60 percent, according to the ministry.
Despite the increases, Cambodia has maintained availability, while urging consumers to use petroleum responsibly amid global energy uncertainty.
