Keo Rottanak Says Cambodia Has Three Weeks of Fuel Reserves Amid Global Oil Supply Uncertainty

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 17, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has about three weeks of fuel reserves as global oil markets face uncertainty following disruptions in the Middle East, Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said Monday.

The disruption of shipments through the Strait of Hormuz has raised concerns across Asia, which imports much of its petroleum from the region. Cambodia, which lacks an oil refinery or large crude stockpiling facilities, relies mainly on imported refined products.

“We are slightly less than 30 days in terms of fuel reserves,” Rottanak told Bloomberg, adding that authorities are working to secure continued imports from diversified sources.

Retail fuel prices have surged in recent weeks, with petrol up more than 30 percent and diesel over 60 percent, according to the ministry. Officials said the government has maintained a transparent pricing formula linked to international markets, while offering limited cushioning to ease the impact on consumers.

Authorities urged the public to avoid panic buying, stressing that supplies remain available nationwide. As of Tuesday, Gasoline 92 is set at 5,500 riel ($1.37) per liter, while diesel (10ppm) is priced at 6,550 riel ($1.63).
