Labor Ministry intensifies campaign to eliminate child labor
KRATIE, Mar 19, 2026 (KPT) — The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has stepped up its nationwide campaign to eradicate child labor and improve conditions for young workers, officials said Thursday, as part of efforts to protect children’s rights and promote decent employment.
The Ministry launched the drive in Kratie province, targeting high risk sectors such as agriculture and brick making. The event was led by Secretary of State Sovann Vannarath, representing Labour Minister Heng Sour, and drew around 500 participants, including government officials, unions, private sector representatives and development partners such as the International Labour Organization.

The campaign will raise public awareness of the risks of child labor, strengthen inspections, and improve workplace conditions for youth. It also seeks to expand access to education, vocational training and employment opportunities, reinforcing Cambodia’s commitment as an ILO member to eliminate child labor.
Authorities urged stronger cooperation from all stakeholders, particularly in export oriented industries, and encouraged the public to report suspected cases through ministry hotlines to enable swift intervention.
