PHNOM PENH, Mar. 25, 2026 (KPT) — Prime Minister Samdech Thipadie Hun Manet has placed innovation, science and technology at the center of Cambodia’s long term growth strategy, sharing a message Wednesday ahead of National Science, Technology and Innovation Day 2026.

The three day event, held from March 26–28 under the theme “Innovation for National Advancement,” will bring together students, researchers, innovators and businesses to showcase Cambodia’s growing innovation landscape.

Samdech Thipadie said innovation would be a key driver in Cambodia’s ambition to become a high income country by 2050. “Science, technology and innovation are no longer optional — they are essential tools to strengthen competitiveness and resilience in a rapidly changing global environment,” he said.

The government is focusing on building a national innovation ecosystem by strengthening collaboration among ministries, universities, research institutions, the private sector and development partners. A National Research Fund has been established to boost investment in research and development, promote new technologies and enhance productivity.

Samdech Thipadie Hun Manet highlighted the importance of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, as opportunities to accelerate digital transformation and improve efficiency across sectors. He stressed that human capital development remains central, calling for greater emphasis on STEM education to build a skilled and future ready workforce.

The event underscores a whole of society approach to development, with innovation expected to support inclusive and sustainable growth, create jobs, increase productivity and deliver higher value added outputs across industries.
