PHNOM PENH, May 12, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s exports to Vietnam rose more than 10 percent in the first four months of 2026, driven by strong demand for agricultural products as Vietnam’s economy continues to expand, official data showed Tuesday.

The General Department of Customs and Excise said Cambodia exported goods worth $1.99 billion to Vietnam between January and April, up 11.5 percent from the same period last year. Total bilateral trade reached $3.36 billion, an increase of 4.3 percent year‑on‑year, while imports from Vietnam declined 4.6 percent to $1.36 billion.

Cambodia’s major exports to Vietnam include paddy rice, rubber, cashew nuts, cassava, corn, bananas, mangoes and tobacco. Imports mainly consist of construction materials, machinery, fuel, electronic and electrical equipment, fertilizers, spices, vegetables and fruits.

Lor Vichet, vice president of the Cambodia Chinese Commerce Association, said Vietnam’s growing economy has boosted demand for competitively priced Cambodian agricultural products.

“As Vietnam’s economy grows, demand becomes stronger, while Cambodian agricultural products remain competitive in price. Sometimes Vietnam prefers buying from Cambodia rather than producing domestically,” he said.

The Cambodian government has introduced measures aimed at raising bilateral trade with Vietnam to $20 billion in the coming years, underscoring the importance of agricultural exports in sustaining growth.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, bilateral trade between Cambodia and Vietnam reached $7.7 billion in 2025.
