TAKEO, May 18, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has inspected the Funan Techo Canal Project, officials said Saturday, as construction continues in Takeo Province.

The visit to Traeuy Khlouk Village, Doung Khpos Commune, Borei Cholsar District, was led by Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the CDC and Deputy Prime Minister, who also serves as Permanent Vice Chairman of the Special Committee overseeing the project. He was joined by the Minister of Public Works and Transport, the Governor of Takeo Province, representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, and technical officials.

Authorities said the review aimed to assess construction progress, ensure implementation remains on schedule and verify compliance with technical standards. Officials reported work advancing positively and praised the professionalism of teams on site.

Chanthol reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the canal as planned, stressing its importance for Cambodia’s long‑term national interests. The project is expected to boost economic growth, enhance competitiveness and improve inland waterway and maritime transport connectivity. Officials said the canal will play a vital role in strengthening Cambodia’s logistics capacity and supporting regional trade integration.
