PHNOM PENH, May 28, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Laos pledged Wednesday to expand trade, investment and connectivity as the two neighbours prepare to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, officials said.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth met Lao Ambassador Sonexay Vannaxay in Phnom Penh to discuss strengthening cooperation in finance, energy and cross‑border infrastructure.

Pornmoniroth highlighted ongoing reforms under Cambodia’s Public Financial Management Program, aimed at improving budget efficiency and public service delivery.

He pointed to growing bilateral cooperation through agreements on avoiding double taxation and customs coordination, designed to ease cross‑border trade and the smoother movement of goods. Officials said such measures were helping to build stronger economic links and reduce barriers for businesses operating between the two countries.

Ambassador Vannaxay praised Cambodia’s economic progress and said the longstanding friendship had evolved into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership rooted in good neighbourly ties and regional cooperation. He stressed that Laos valued Cambodia’s reforms and looked forward to closer collaboration in areas ranging from energy to people‑to‑people exchanges.

Both sides vowed to deepen economic links, reinforce strategic cooperation and promote connectivity as they commemorate seven decades of diplomatic relations in 2026, framing the milestone as an opportunity to strengthen regional stability and prosperity.
