PHNOM PENH, June 3, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce is evaluating the progress of the established overseas trade centers designed to promote Khmer products and expand the country’s export presence in global markets, officials said Wednesday.

The review was discussed at a meeting chaired by Commerce Minister Cham Nimul on procedures for managing Cambodian private trade centers abroad. Officials said the centers are intended to strengthen Cambodia’s commercial outreach by showcasing locally made products and facilitating greater market access for exporters.

Lim Heng, vice president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, told KPT English on Wednesday he welcomed the push, saying the centers will play an important role in helping businesses diversify and expand export markets.

He noted that recent amendments to the chamber’s law will also allow it to establish representative offices overseas, complementing the ministry’s trade center network.

According to Heng, both the overseas trade centers and chamber offices are designed to serve Cambodia’s broader economic interests and support long‑term trade expansion.

The initiative comes as Cambodia’s international trade continues to grow. Official data show trade volume with global partners reached more than US$23.38 billion in the first four months of 2026, up 19.9 percent year‑on‑year. Exports rose 21.7 percent to US$11.12 billion, while imports climbed 18.3 percent to US$12.26 billion.

Ministry said the trade centers will help sustain this momentum by promoting Cambodian products abroad, strengthening partnerships with international buyers and investors, and positioning the Kingdom more competitively in global supply chains.
