Cambodia Urges Toyota to Deepen Linkages With SMEs Over Spare Parts and Services

PHNOM PENH, June 5, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has urged Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing and Toyota Cambodia to strengthen linkages with local small and medium‑sized enterprises by exploring opportunities for them to supply automotive parts and services, officials said Thursday.

Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, met representatives of both entities to review Toyota’s local production progress.

Toyota reported that it has begun producing “Made in Cambodia” Hilux and Fortuner vehicles over the past two years, with monthly output rising from 27 units initially to more than 400. The company said 77 percent of its workforce are graduates of Cambodia’s technical and vocational education institutions. Government incentives have helped reduce prices and increase the share of locally assembled vehicles in sales.

“This is a brilliant success,” Vanndy said, praising Toyota’s rapid growth in Cambodia. He added that the company’s achievements reflected effective collaboration between the private sector and the government in promoting local production, skills development, standards and industrial growth.

The minister also called for expanded customer education on safety, maintenance and advanced vehicle features through short videos and digital platforms, and urged Toyota to continue working with the Institute of Standards of Cambodia to strengthen compliance.

Toyota reaffirmed its commitment to cooperate with Cambodian SMEs, service partners and government bodies. The company said it currently works with 22 service partners nationwide and will continue training young technicians through its Toyota Training Center.
