Cambodia Promotes Gastronomy and Religious Tourism to Attract More Myanmar Visitors
YANGON, June 16, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is intensifying efforts to draw more travelers from Myanmar by spotlighting its culinary heritage and religious tourism, Tourism Minister Huot Hak said Monday, underscoring shared cultural and spiritual ties as a foundation for closer cooperation.
During an official visit to Yangon, Hak met with Ambassador Cheng Manith, embassy staff, and Cambodian business representatives at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia. He conveyed greetings from the Royal Government and praised the embassy’s role in strengthening bilateral relations and advancing Cambodia’s interests in Myanmar.

Highlighting the long-standing friendship between the two nations, Hak noted their common Buddhist heritage and cultural similarities, which he said offer significant opportunities to expand religious tourism and deepen people-to-people exchanges. He stressed that such initiatives could strengthen mutual understanding while generating economic benefits for both sides.
The minister also emphasized the growing importance of gastronomy diplomacy, describing Cambodian cuisine as a powerful vehicle for showcasing the country’s identity and traditions. Promoting Cambodia’s culinary heritage, he added, could raise awareness of the Kingdom as a tourism destination and encourage more Myanmar travelers to visit.
Hak urged the embassy to step up promotion of both gastronomy and religious tourism, identifying them as high-potential products capable of boosting visitor flows. He called for continued collaboration among the embassy, government institutions, and private sector stakeholders to expand awareness of Cambodia’s attractions, cuisine, and religious sites.
Praising the embassy’s ongoing efforts, Hak expressed confidence that stronger cooperation would lead to increased exchanges and deeper ties between the peoples of Cambodia and Myanmar.
