Cambodia Launches French-Language Diplomacy Training for Parliament Staff

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 10, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s National Assembly has launched a training programme to strengthen officials’ skills in parliamentary diplomacy in French as the country prepares to host the 2026 Francophonie Summit.
The eighth course on “Parliamentary Diplomacy in French” opened on March 9 at the National Assembly Palace, organised in collaboration with the Parliamentary Centre of Asia (PCAsia).
The initiative forms part of Cambodia’s preparations for the 20th Francophonie Summit in November and supports engagement with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Keo Piseth, deputy secretary-general of the National Assembly, with international experts including former French ambassador Michel Foucher. Officials from Laos joined via video conference.
Organisers said the programme aims to enhance diplomatic and technical skills, strengthen cooperation between Southeast Asia and the Francophone world, and prepare policy contributions for the Atlas of the Francophonie community.
The training, held in two phases this month, also focuses on building networks and promoting the use of French in diplomacy to support peace, democracy, human rights, and development.
