Cambodia monitoring citizens and Middle East situation, PM says

PHNOM PENH, March 7, 2026 (KPT) – Prime Minister Hun Manet said Friday that Cambodian authorities are closely monitoring the safety of nearly 500 nationals living in the Middle East, including Israel, amid rising regional tensions.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the National Authority for Combating Drugs’ annual review, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that 487 Cambodian citizens and students are currently residing in seven countries across the region.
He urged officials to remain vigilant and prepared to act swiftly if conditions deteriorate.
The premier also announced a temporary suspension of sending Cambodian students to study in the Middle East until the situation stabilizes.
Government spokesman Pen Bona said earlier this week that Cambodian embassies covering the region have been instructed to provide safety guidance and emergency contacts.
The embassy responsible for Israel, based in Ankara, has warned of escalating military tensions between Israel and Iran and urged Cambodians to follow local instructions. Consular assistance is available through hotlines and messaging apps.
Embassies in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain have also issued advisories, providing contact details for nationals and urging caution.
