Cambodia and Singapore pledge to strengthen ties as ambassador concludes mission

PHNOM PENH, 2 March 2026 (KPT) – Singapore’s outgoing ambassador to Cambodia, Teo Lay Cheng, has expressed confidence that bilateral relations will continue to grow as she concluded her diplomatic mission.

On 2 March, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet received Teo at the Peace Palace for a courtesy visit marking the end of her tenure.

The ambassador thanked Samdech Thipadei and the Cambodian government for their support, highlighting achievements she witnessed in Cambodia, including the national COVID-19 response, ASEAN summits, and regional sporting events such as the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

Teo expressed pride in Cambodia’s progress and reaffirmed her belief that ties with Singapore would strengthen further.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet commended Teo for her contributions and congratulated her on her new appointment. He also thanked Singapore for supporting peace and ceasefire efforts between Cambodia and Thailand.

The prime minister noted that both countries have significant potential to expand cooperation in trade, investment, education and vocational training.

On the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, Samdech Thipadei briefed Teo on recent developments and stressed Cambodia’s commitment to a peaceful resolution in line with international law. Teo expressed hope the matter would be resolved through dialogue.
