PHNOM PENH, March 1, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia will mark its 28th National Culture Day on March 3, with the government placing young people at the forefront of efforts to safeguard the country’s heritage, officials said Friday.

Established in 2006, the annual observance honors the sacrifices of Khmer ancestors who created and preserved Cambodia’s cultural legacy. This year’s theme, “Youth for National Culture,” highlights the role of the younger generation in protecting, conserving and sustainably developing traditions.

Authorities stressed that cultural preservation remains a national priority, reflected in the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I. They also pointed to challenges, including damage to heritage sites along the Cambodia–Thailand border amid sovereignty disputes.

Celebrations will run from March 3 through the Khmer New Year in April, with ministries, schools, provincial administrations, tourism operators, media outlets and Cambodian embassies abroad instructed to stage exhibitions, events and awareness campaigns both online and offline.

Officials said the day is not only commemorative but also a call to action, encouraging innovation, digital engagement and the growth of creative industries to support Cambodia’s long-term development vision toward 2050.

Under slogans such as “Cambodia: Kingdom of Culture” and “Arts and Culture for All,” the government aims to inspire patriotism, unity and peace through cultural pride.
