PHNOM PENH, Feb 26, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has facilitated the deployment of an ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to monitor the situation near Preah Vihear Temple, following a ceasefire with Thailand.

Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, said the Cambodian Liaison Group coordinated the visit Thursday morning in Choam Ksan District, Preah Vihear Province.

Observers were tasked with verifying and reporting developments since the ceasefire took effect on Dec 27, 2025.

“Since the ceasefire, Cambodia has consistently respected its terms, including the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, and the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee,” Lt Gen Socheata said.

She added that Cambodia remains committed to reaching “a just, fair and lasting solution in accordance with international law” and expects Thailand to honour the agreements in the same spirit.

The ministry said the announcement was intended to inform both the public and national and international media of the current situation.
