EU and UK Pledge Continued Aid During Visit to Banteay Meanchey

PHNOM PENH, Feb 24, 2026 (KPT) – Senior European and British diplomats have reaffirmed their commitment to humanitarian assistance and peace efforts during a visit to communities affected by border tensions in north-western Cambodia.
The delegation travelled to Banteay Meanchey province on Thursday to assess conditions and meet displaced families.
“The European Union remains committed to supporting Cambodians affected by border conflict,” said Andreas Berg, the EU chargé d’affaires in Cambodia.
He pledged continued diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and implement ceasefire agreements, alongside long-term humanitarian aid.
“Our focus remains on ensuring that even in difficult times, the most vulnerable, especially children, maintain their right to quality education and a safe environment,” he added.
British ambassador Dominic Williams, making his second trip to Banteay Meanchey this month, said: “I feel sympathy for the ordinary people affected.
The UK will continue to call for a peaceful solution to the border. This is the only sustainable way for communities in both countries to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.”
During the visit, the delegation toured safety centres for displaced people and met residents in Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages, as well as the Boeung Trakuon area.
