PM Hun Manet begins Europe visit with UN and international meetings

PHNOM PENH, Feb 24, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has begun a visit to Europe, holding talks with senior United Nations and international officials in Geneva.
On Feb 23, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet met UN Secretary-General António Guterres, followed by separate discussions with UN human rights chief Volker Türk and International Committee of the Red Cross Vice-President Gilles Carbonnier.
He also met Annalena Baerbock, president of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
The meetings form part of what officials in Cambodia describe as a broader diplomatic mission, following Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet’s recent trip to Washington at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the European tour includes stops in Geneva and Brussels, where the prime minister is scheduled to meet senior officials and stakeholders to expand partnerships and cooperation.
Government spokesman Pen Bona said the visits to the United States and Europe are part of efforts to defend national sovereignty and safeguard citizens amid border tensions with Thailand.
He said discussions revisited the conflict, reaffirming what he described as international concern over alleged territorial violations and the displacement of tens of thousands of Cambodians.
