Foreign Diplomats Inspect Alleged Thai Violations in Banteay Meanchey

BANTEAY MEANCHEY, Feb 23, 2026 (KPT) – Foreign diplomats and international agencies accredited to Cambodia visited sites in Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, to inspect alleged violations by Thai forces, officials said Monday.

The visit, led by Et Sophea, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included provincial authorities and aimed to provide observers with a firsthand view of reported breaches of Cambodian sovereignty.

Authorities said the inspection focused on illegal land clearing, placement of containers and other activities carried out by Thai troops.

Despite a ceasefire signed on December 27, 2025, Cambodia has accused Thai forces of continuing to create “facts on the ground” that the government cannot accept.

Government spokesman Pen Bona reiterated Cambodia’s firm position on the border, citing historical agreements, treaties and demarcation records recognized by both countries.

He said Cambodia continues to uphold ceasefire provisions and previous commitments.

The Ministry of Interior reported that about 90 percent of civilians displaced by recent clashes have returned home, with more than 580,000 people resettled since the December ceasefire.
