Cambodia Briefs Atlantic Council on Thailand Border Dispute

PHNOM PENH, 20 February 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with Atlantic Council leaders Jim Jones and Frederick Kempe in Washington on February 20, on the sidelines of the inaugural Board of Peace meeting, to discuss regional security and the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute.
The Council’s leadership voiced interest in the origins and current developments of the dispute, noting the potential role of the United States in supporting a peaceful resolution.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet outlined Cambodia’s approach, stressing diplomatic patience and adherence to international law, treaties, and conventions.
He underscored that Phnom Penh seeks a peaceful settlement through bilateral agreements and global legal frameworks.
The Prime Minister also asked the Council to help disseminate an accurate account of the dispute internationally, clarifying that his briefing was intended as a factual presentation rather than an accusation.
Both sides agreed to explore ways the Atlantic Council could contribute to presenting the facts to the international community and encourage dialogue.
The meeting reflected Cambodia’s ongoing engagement with international think tanks to address regional disputes through transparency, law-based solutions, and multilateral cooperation.
