Cambodia and Türkiye Explore Closer Ties Amid Border Dispute Talks

PHNOM PENH, 21 February 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Washington on the sidelines of the inaugural Board of Peace meeting, holding talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional security concerns.

Fidan praised Cambodia’s hospitality and noted progress in cooperation across key sectors. He extended an invitation for Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet to visit Türkiye at a mutually convenient time, underscoring Ankara’s interest in deepening collaboration.

The Turkish minister also raised the ongoing Cambodia–Thailand border dispute, seeking insight into its origins and current developments. He expressed hope that the two neighbours could achieve a lasting settlement.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving border issues peacefully, citing bilateral agreements, international conventions, and international law.

He stressed Phnom Penh’s broader policy of diversifying partnerships across all sectors worldwide.

The two leaders discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, security, defence, and education, as well as collaboration within ASEAN and other global frameworks.

Both sides agreed to explore new avenues to strengthen ties and promote mutual development.

The meeting highlighted growing diplomatic engagement between Cambodia and Türkiye, while reinforcing Cambodia’s stance on lawful, peaceful resolution of regional disputes alongside efforts to broaden international partnerships.
