PHNOM PENH, Feb 18, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet will attend the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council in Washington on February 19, following an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump, officials said Wednesday.

Government spokesman Pen Bona said the prime minister’s participation underscores Cambodia’s commitment to international peace and respect for the rule of law.

“The world will observe Cambodia more closely as a country genuinely committed to protecting peace,” he said.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet recently wrote to French President Emmanuel Macron seeking support in exchanging historical and technical documents related to the Cambodia Thailand border dispute, a move officials said reflects Phnom Penh’s pursuit of peaceful resolution through international law.

Cambodia has reaffirmed its adherence to the December 27 ceasefire and previous agreements, insisting that the border established by the Franco Siamese Boundary Commission must be respected.

Pen Bona credited former premier Hun Sen for decades of reconciliation and said Hun Manet continues to place peace at the centre of government priorities, including contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.

“The participation of Cambodia demonstrates the country’s determination to contribute to global peace,” Pan said. “Cambodia has a long-standing commitment to peacebuilding, which continues under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.”

The Peace Council was created under a UN Security Council resolution last November to promote peace and reconstruction in Gaza, with leaders expected to discuss wider strategies for stability and development.
