Cambodia and Canada hold bilateral talks in Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH, 13 February 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met Alan Bowman, Director General for Southeast Asia and Oceania at Global Affairs Canada, during the Canadian official’s visit to Phnom Penh for the second round of bilateral consultations.
Prak Sokhonn welcomed the talks, citing “positive momentum” in relations and expressing hope for further progress following the first round of consultations. He thanked Canada for supporting Cambodia’s preparations to host the 2026 Francophonie Summit.
Bowman reaffirmed Canada’s backing for the summit, saying Canadian leaders were committed to attending and ready to share experience in organising major international events.
He voiced confidence the consultations would expand cooperation. The Cambodian foreign minister also briefed Bowman on recent developments in the Cambodia–Thailand border issue, noting Canada’s support for efforts toward a peaceful settlement.
