Queen Mother of Cambodia Donates $100,000 for Mine Clearance

PHNOM PENH, Feb 5, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk has donated $100,000 to support landmine and unexploded ordnance clearance, the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) said.
CMAC director general Heng Ratana said the Queen Mother’s contributions, both financial and in-kind, have been vital in reducing risks from mines and war remnants.
“Her Majesty’s support shows the highest level of attention to our personnel working in dangerous conditions,” he said.
The latest grant follows a $20,000 donation in September 2025, underscoring her long-standing backing for mine clearance efforts.
The announcement comes as Japan last week pledged $665,186 for cluster munition clearance and reconstruction in Stung Treng province.
The project, led by the Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS), will clear 170 hectares of contaminated land, train CMAC staff in safe techniques, and provide mine-risk education to local communities.
Farmers will also receive training in modern agriculture as part of the initiative. Japan has contributed more than $60 million to 170 projects in Cambodia since the 1990s, focusing on education, healthcare, agriculture and mine clearance.
Officials said the latest grant reflects Japan’s continued commitment to safe and sustainable development in areas scarred by past conflicts.
