Cambodia, Thailand hold border talks to ease tensions
KOH KONG, Feb 4, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian and Thai officials met Wednesday to discuss ongoing border issues, the Ministry of National Defence said.
The session was held at the Cham Yeam–Hat Lek international checkpoint in Koh Kong province, bringing together Cambodia’s Military Region 3 and Thailand’s Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defense Command. An ASEAN Observer Team attended the talks.
Cambodia’s delegation was led by Major General Mom Samedy, chief of the Regional Border Committee (RBC) Secretariat, while Thailand was represented by Captain Kittiphon Kunsiripanyo, head of the Thai RBC Secretariat.
According to the ministry, the two sides did not reach a final agreement and will continue exchanging documents and negotiating at their respective headquarters.
A formal signing ceremony and a subsequent RBC meeting are planned once consensus is achieved.
Officials said the meeting followed the joint statement issued during the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee on December 27, 2025.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to reducing tensions and promoting regional peace and stability.
