Cambodia Says It Has Taken Coordinated Action to Defend Border Sovereignty

PHNOM PENH, Jan 26, 2026 ( KPT) – Cambodia’s government says it has taken coordinated and wide ranging measures to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity following border tensions with Thailand that erupted in July 2025.
Government spokesman Pen Bona said authorities at all levels had acted in a “united and resolute manner” since Cambodia accused Thailand of military aggression on July 24.
He said the government had prioritised both the defence of national territory and assistance to civilians displaced by the clashes.
According to Bona, ministries and state institutions issued nearly 700 official communications over the past six months, including protest notes, press statements and petitions of condemnation, aimed at clarifying Cambodia’s position domestically and internationally.
The Ministry of National Defence accounted for the largest number, followed by the Interior, Culture and Foreign Affairs ministries.
The spokesperson said nearly 200 press briefings were organised to keep the public informed, while diplomatic outreach included 14 briefings for foreign diplomats and four visits to border provinces.
Cambodian embassies abroad were instructed to engage host governments and international partners.
Bona reiterated that Cambodia’s stance is based on international agreements, treaties and maps, stressing the country does not recognise any border changes resulting from the use of force.
