PHNOM PENH, Jan 23, 2026 (KPT) – More than 530,000 Cambodians, or 82 percent of those displaced by recent border tensions, have returned home following the ceasefire, the Ministry of Interior said Friday.

An additional 3,610 people returned between January 22 and 23. Around 118,034 people remain in displacement camps across seven provinces, including 62,042 women and 38,690 children.

Authorities reported progress in restoring essential services, with most schools, hospitals and local administrative offices in Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey and Preah Vihear resuming operations, though some remain temporarily closed.

No new infrastructure damage was reported during the period. Since December 7, assessments have recorded destruction to 980 houses along with privately owned buildings, schools, health centers, pagodas, ancient temples, roads, bridges and utilities.

The ministry said provincial authorities continue to provide food, shelter, healthcare and security for displaced families while coordinating safe returns and the gradual restoration of normal services in border areas.
