Cambodia, South Korea Step Up Parliamentary and Executive Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Jan 23, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and the Republic of Korea pledged to deepen legislative and executive cooperation as National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary received newly appointed Korean Ambassador Kim Changyong on Thursday at the Assembly Palace.

Khuon Sudary welcomed the envoy, voicing confidence that his experience would deliver concrete results and further strengthen bilateral ties.

She underlined that the Cambodia–Korea strategic partnership rests on mutual trust, respect and shared benefits, while thanking Seoul for its longstanding support for peace and development.

She also encouraged greater Korean investment and tourism, citing cultural and educational exchanges as areas with strong potential. In addition, she requested technical training support for Assembly staff to improve services for lawmakers and the public.

Ambassador Kim briefed her on ongoing cooperation projects under Korea’s Official Development Assistance and praised Cambodia’s efforts to combat online scams.

He reaffirmed Seoul’s readiness to help strengthen Cambodia’s capacity against transnational and cyber-enabled crimes.

Kim further sought Cambodia’s backing for a Korean candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

On humanitarian issues, he expressed sympathy for Cambodians affected by the border situation with Thailand and announced a $500,000 contribution through UNICEF to address the impacts.
