Cambodia deports hundreds of Vietnamese nationals for illegal entry and work
PHNOM PENH, Jan 20, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has deported nearly 400 Vietnamese nationals for illegal entry and work, the General Department of Immigration said Tuesday.
A total of 399 people, including 55 women, were sent back through the Prek Chak International Border Gate in Kampot province on January 17–18, following investigations by immigration officials and local police.
Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, who is also Interior Minister, and Immigration Director General Sok Vassana confirmed the deportations, saying the group had entered Cambodia without valid documents and were working illegally.
On January 16, authorities also deported 42 Vietnamese nationals through the Mun Chrey International Border Gate in Prey Veng province.
Officials said they were linked to online scam activities and had been residing in Cambodia unlawfully.
Immigration authorities said Cambodia deported more than 13,000 foreigners from 66 nationalities in 2025, with the largest groups from China, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn said the measures reflect Phnom Penh’s commitment to tackling cybercrime and transnational crime, adding that Cambodia continues to cooperate closely with partners including the United States, China, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand.
