Cambodia moves to boost overseas diplomacy, targets trade and citizen protection
PHNOM PENH, Jan 13, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia on Monday announced steps to strengthen its overseas diplomatic missions, with a focus on promoting trade and investment, protecting citizens abroad and raising the country’s global profile.
Secretary of State Pech Puthisathbopeaneaky of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs chaired an inter-ministerial meeting to review the management of attachés serving at Cambodian missions overseas.

The meeting brought together senior officials from multiple ministries to discuss coordination, accountability and administrative procedures aimed at improving the performance of diplomats and attachés.
Officials said the government wants overseas missions to play a stronger role in economic diplomacy by mobilizing investment, boosting tourism and supporting national development priorities.
They stressed that enhancing the professionalism and capacity of diplomatic personnel would allow Cambodia’s missions abroad to safeguard citizens’ rights more effectively and contribute to the country’s international standing.
