PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Jan. 5, 2026) — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met with United Nations Resident Coordinator Jo Scheuer on Monday during a farewell courtesy call marking the end of Scheuer’s mission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said.

Sokhonn thanked Scheuer for strengthening coordination among UN agencies and supporting Cambodia’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. He emphasized peace as a foundation for national development and expressed hope for continued international support.

He also acknowledged the UN’s role in mine action and peacekeeping, calling it an important contribution to humanitarian protection and international peace.

Scheuer expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government for its cooperation, saying it enabled the UN system to deliver assistance across multiple sectors. He highlighted Cambodia’s progress in aligning national priorities with global development goals and voiced optimism about the country’s future.

Scheuer cited the legacy of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia as a key step in advancing justice, accountability and reconciliation.

He also expressed sympathy for civilians displaced by the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict and reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting affected communities.

Sokhonn said Cambodia would continue working closely with the UN Country Team, including incoming Resident Coordinator Vladanka Andreeva.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Cambodia’s long-standing partnership with the United Nations, the ministry said.
